Welcome to the River Creek Archive

A work still in progress, but we are happy to let you peek before it is completed. Click the blue square in the upper right corner to see the Galleries.

This website is a digital archive of the photos and other materials provided by Mark Montgomery. The goal is to preserve the content before it before it succumbs to the rages of time. There are duplicates of photos and other materials because Mark provided both the individual photos and the collections containing the photos. Where possible I used the original digital materials, in other cases only printed copies existed and were scanned. Almost all content on this site is due to the efforts of others, these photos and works of art are not mine.

River Creek Yesterday

The land nestled at the confluence of the Potomac River and Goose Creek has a history as illustrious as its present. Archeological sites on the River Creek property have unearthed evidence that archaic man chose this fertile land as his home over 10,000 years ago, and colonial maps show that European settlers had established large agricultural estates in this fertile Potomac region by the early 1700's.

With the coming of the Civil War this relatively peaceful region was thrust in to the turmoil of battle, and Edwards Ferry was used by both Confederate and Union forces seeking to cross the divided Potomac. In the Battle of Ball's Bluff the warring factions collided on the bluffs overlooking the Potomac in and around the River Creek property, and the Union commander, General Stone, actually made his headquarters in a house on what is now the River Creek land. Throughout the years candlesticks, personal items, even weapons have been recovered from this more turbulent period in the history of the property.

Today

The River Creek development is making something of history of its own. With the revolutionary new application of fiber optic circuitry throughout the community and a unique focus on cohesiveness that far extends beyond its private guard gated entrance. River Creek is redefining what it means to be an exclusive golf-course community of today. Whether as a remnant of primitive villages gone by or a tribute to the bloody upheaval of the Civil War, the unique land at the mouth of Goose Creek and the Potomac River has undoubtedly played a significant role in defining the lifestyle and community which create and complete River Creek Lifestyle.
